I was born and raised in Nigeria where I received my bachelor degree in chemistry from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. In 2011, I completed a chemistry doctorate degree from Miami University, the one in Oxford (Ohio) and not Miami (Florida!) and was awarded a Dissertation Scholar for my thesis: Noncovalent Interactions Involving Aromatic Rings: How to Dissect CH-pi, pi-pi and NH-pi Interactions ". Thereafter I started a postdoctoral position with John D. Roberts (Jack) at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and began a two-year project investigating the effect of "weak" interactions in the conformational preferences of organic molecules in solution using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. After a brief teaching experience at Robert Wood Johnson medical school at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) in the summer of 2014, I accepted a tenure track assistant professor position at the State University of New York, Old Westbury (aka SUNY Old Westbury) where I teach organic chemistry (lecture & lab) and perform research in the physical organic chemistry of "weak" interactions.
